Dialogues Body and Sea is the fifth sculpture of the Body Memory series. The Dialogues Body and Sea 33.5”X24”X10.25”, cone 5 ceramic torso composed of three separate columns. Seaweed photos are integrated into Dialogues Body and Sea. The images are rendered with mid-fire underglazes, glazes and some oil paints. The columns can be installed almost abutting so the viewer must make an effort to see the imagery rendered on the inner surfaces. or they can be splayed apart to reveal figures, both representational and abstracted. These forms are inspired by personal ecological experience as well as historical art and contemporary images. The painting Lady With a Nautilus, on the center column, is a play on Leonardo’s Lady With an Ermine.
